'Best of 13-14' continues on MHSAA.tv

July 21, 2014

The fifth week of  "Best Of 2013-14” offerings will be featured on the MHSAA.tv Website this week.

For eight weeks over the summer, MHSAA.tv will spotlight some of the best tournament action from the 2013-14 school year, presenting four games each week.

Each contest will be easily identified with a “Best Of 13-14” thumbnail on the home page of the MHSAA.tv Website. Here’s a look at the games which will be featured from July 21-28:

  • Grand Rapids South Christian v. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep: 2013 Class B Girls Volleyball Final. Katherine Carlson delivers 25 kills for Notre Dame Prep in a 3-1 decision over South Christian.

  • Muskegon v. Birmingham Brother Rice: 2013 Division 2 Football Final. In the final game of Al Fracassa’s coaching career, the Warriors bust the game open in the fourth quarter to top the Big Rads, 38-21.

  • Farmington Hills Mercy v. Bloomfield Hills Marian: 2014 Class A Girls Basketball  Semifinal. This was the fourth meeting of the two schools, which split their-regular season games, and then Mercy won the Catholic League championship game. Marian, however, was not to be denied, finishing the game with a 17-7 run and winning 67-55.

  • Kalamazoo Christian v. Rogers City: 2014 Division 4 Softball Final. Morgan Hall stroked a double in the top of the seventh inning to drive in Sarah Meredith with what proved to be the winning run for the Hurons in their 3-2 decision over K-Christian.

Technical difficulties prevented this year’s MHSAA Girls Lacrosse Finals from being streamed live on MHSAA.tv in June, but both championships games are now available. In the Division 1 finale, Rockford defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer, 16-7, while in the Division 2 championship, East Grand Rapids was an 11-7 winner over Okemos.

During the course of the 2013-14 school year, over 3,000 events were produced on MHSAA.tv by PlayOn! Sports and MHSAA member schools participating in the School Broadcasting Program, covering everything from athletics to announcements to commencements to the performing arts and school board meetings.

DVD’s of the “Best Of 13-14” game videos, and the Girls Lacrosse Finals  are available through the MHSAA.tv website.

Live Stats, Games on MHSAA.tv

December 9, 2014

Another feature offered on the MHSAA.tv website is the availability of live basketball stats at member schools using the Digital Scout platform for their in-game statistics keeping.

Digital Scout is a division of PlayOn! Sports, which powers the NFHS Network.  Schools input statistics live using a handheld device. When connected to the Internet, those stats stream live on a school’s portal page and on the MHSAA portal page. For those games which have live streaming video and live stats, they are incorporated onto a single page to enhance the viewer’s experience.

Last week, live stats were available for over a dozen girls basketball games, along with a similar number of basketball and ice hockey games with live streaming video from MHSAA members participating in the School Broadcast Program; those numbers will only grow now that the boys basketball season has begun.

The School Broadcast Program gives members an opportunity to showcase excellence in their schools by creating video programming of athletic and non-athletic events with students gaining skills in announcing, camera operation, directing/producing and graphics. The program also gives schools the opportunity to raise money through advertising and viewing subscriptions.
