The top runners in Michigan were among those who separated themselves from the field over the weekend, as a pair of familiar champions won the biggest races so far in cross country.

Cross County

Arguably the most anticipated regular-season event, the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State, saw Corunna’s Noah Jacobs and Battle Creek Lakeview’s Megan Farrell continue dominating falls with individual wins in the “elite” races – RunMichigan.com

The Harbor Springs boys and girls teams swept the Ellsworth "House on the Hill" Invitational races – Petoskey News

Battle Creek Lakeview claimed its all-city tournament title with a 2-1 win over Battle Creek Central – Battle Creek Enquirer

Unranked Saline earned a 1-1 tie against Division 1 No. 6 Brighton, breaking the Bulldogs’ eight-game winning streak – Livingston Daily

Volleyball

Class D No. 9 North Adams-Jerome won the Onsted Invitational, handing Adrian Madison its third loss in a tournament championship match this fall – Adrian Daily Telegram

Niles won the 21-team Portage Northern Invitational against a field including Class B No. 3 Buchanan, which it beat in the championship match – NilesAthletics.com
