Although statewide action was light Wednesday, it included a milestone win, a record performance, a meeting of surging hockey programs and a matchup of two of the top girls basketball teams in Michigan.

Girls Basketball

Reigning Class A champion Warren Cousino handed previously-undefeated Port Huron Northern its first loss, 53-51, in a matchup of likely contenders again this March – Macomb Daily

Kalle Martinez tied the Bay City John Glenn school record with 36 points in a win over Gladwin – Bay City Times

Hockey 

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep ran its unbeaten streak to nine and ended Oxford/Avondale’s six-game unbeaten streak with a 6-2 victory – Oakland Press

Blanchard Montabella earned coach Shaun Balhorn the 400th win of his career with a victory over Fulton – Mount Pleasant Morning Sun

7. SOFTBALL Reigning Division 3 champion and current No. 3 Standish-Sterling earned its first victory this spring, 10-9 over Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary – Bay City Times

8. GIRLS LACROSSE Traverse City United earned its first win of its first season, 10-8 over Saginaw Heritage – Traverse City Record-Eagle

9. GIRLS SOCCER Division 3 No. 14 Freeland earned its second-straight shutout, 4-0 over Birch Run, to remain undefeated – Saginaw News
