Although notable events Wednesday may have been fewer than most evenings of late, a matchup of arguably the top two hockey teams in Michigan certainly stood out.

Gaylord St. Mary moved to 8-1 and into first place alone in the Ski Valley Conference with a 38-23 win over Bellaire – Gaylord Herald Times
Wyandotte Roosevelt handed Trenton its first loss this season, 44-33, to take over first place alone in the Downriver League – Southgate News Herald

Birmingham Brother Rice won a Detroit Catholic League Central matchup of the top-ranked teams statewide in Divisions 1 and 2, downing Detroit Catholic Central 4-3 – Oakland Press

2. BOYS SOCCER No. 4 Oxford claimed its first Regional championship with a shootout win over Detroit Catholic Central in Division 1 – Oakland Press
3. BOYS SOCCER No. 9 Hartford also claimed a first Regional title in this sport with a 2-1 win over No. 15 Fennville in Division 3 – Kalamazoo Gazette

9. BOYS SOCCER No. 13 Williamston got past Ann Arbor Greenhills in a shootout to clinch a Division 3 Regional title – Lansing State Journal
10. VOLLEYBALL Erie Mason swept Ottawa Lake Whiteford to win the Tri-County Conference title, its first league championship since 1995 – Monroe News
