The MHSAA volleyball and girls swimming & diving tournaments finished Saturday with seven championships awarded to teams from across the Lower Peninsula and coverage provided of each Final by Second Half correspondents. 

Each weekday during the school year, we’ll gather and post media links covering the most significant and intriguing high school events from all over the state.

Swimming & Diving

Rockford passed recent champs and favorites to win the Lower Peninsula Division 1 Final and claim its first championship in the sport Second Half

Birmingham Seaholm won its first title in 20 years, finishing ahead of reigning champ Dexter in LP Division 2 Second Half

East Grand Rapids claimed its 20th MHSAA championship with arguably its most talented team ever, winning in LP Division 3 Second Half

Volleyball

Novi advanced to its third straight Class A Final and won its second straight championship, 3-1 over Rockford Second Half

North Branch met Lake Odessa Lakewood in the Class B Final for the third time in five seasons and prevailed over the top-ranked Vikings Second Half

Bronson repeated in Class C against a Brown City team appearing in the Final for the first time Second Half

Plymouth Christian secured its first MHSAA title, downing league mate Auburn Hills Oakland Christian in Class D Second Half

1. GIRLS TENNIS LPD2 No. 9 Traverse City Central ran its Big North Conference title streak to 11 – Traverse City Record-Eagle

2. TRACK & FIELD Ithaca’s girls and boys teams finished a repeat in the Tri-Valley Conference Blue; Ithaca’s girls are ranked No. 5 in Lower Peninsula Division 3, and the boys are ranked No. 2 – Mount Pleasant Morning Sun | Athletic.net

3. GIRLS SOCCER Ovid-Elsie clinched an outright Mid-Michigan Activities Conference title with a shutout of Durand – Lansing State Journal

4. TRACK & FIELD Pinckney’s girls secured the Southeastern Conference White championship, and Chelsea won the boys meet – Livingston Daily Press & Argus | Athletic.net

5. BOYS GOLF Quincy won its Oriole Classic by six strokes – Coldwater Daily Reporter

6. SOFTBALL Millington swept Midland Bullock Creek 3-1 and 7-1 in a matchup of Division 3 honorable mentions – WNEM

7. BASEBALL Iron Mountain earned a split with Division 3 No. 20 Gladstone – Upper Michigan Source

8. BASEBALL McBain downed Division 4 No. 20 Marion 7-2 – Cadillac News

9. SOFTBALL Grace Schloop tied Midland’s career strikeout record with 17 more in a 4-1 win over Lapeer – Midland Daily News

10. SOFTBALL Division 2 No. 5 Frankenmuth downed Division 3 honorable mention Otisville LakeVille Memorial 7-2 – Saginaw News
