Moment: Richmond Gets Pin to Win

Three matches remained in the Division 3 Wrestling Final on Feb. 28, 2015, and Dundee led 25-12 with a third-straight championship nearly in grasp.

But after his Richmond teammates Adam Boyd and Roy Costello fought back to pull their team within four points of the lead with only his 112-pound match left, senior Conor Behem found himself with an all-or-nothing title-deciding opportunity.

Behem’s pin in 1 minute, 7 seconds, gave Richmond a 27-25 win over Dundee and its first championship since 2012 – and after Richmond had fallen to Dundee in the Finals both of the previous two seasons.

Oh, and Behem finished off the victory despite wrestling with tears to a knee ligament and meniscus.

“I kind of broke down emotionally,” Behem said of the immediate aftermath. “It felt so good, words can’t even describe it.”

Performance of the Week: Saginaw Arthur Hill's Michael Baldwin

Baldwin became the final Arthur Hill county wrestling champion Saturday, claiming the Saginaw County Invitational title at 165 pounds with a 26-11 win over Frankenmuth's Owen Tucker in the title match. Baldwin also was named the tournament's Upper Weight Most Valuable Wrestler. His victory includes the additional historical note because Arthur Hill will merge with Saginaw High this summer, ending their century-long histories in forming a new school.

Baldwin won all three of his matches by technical fall Saturday to move to 7-2 this season. He finished last winter 38-7 after reaching the MHSAA Individual Finals also at 165 pounds. Baldwin played several sports growing up and joined Arthur Hill's cross country team this past season, and was named captain. He hopes to attend University of Michigan after graduation and join his brother Lionel, a league and District champion and Finals placer last winter as a high school senior.
