Performance of the Week: Ann Arbor Pioneer's Gabriel Sanchez-Burks

March 3, 2023

Gabriel Sanchez-BurksGabriel Sanchez-Burks ♦ Ann Arbor Pioneer
Senior ♦ Swimming

Sanchez-Burks swam the fastest 50 and 100-yard freestyle times in Michigan this season at the weekend’s Southeastern Conference Red championship meet in leading Ann Arbor Pioneer to a victory in one of the strongest swimming & diving leagues statewide. His time in the 50 – 20.25 seconds – set a league record – and that time and his 100 time of 45.31 seconds were personal bests.

Pioneer has won the last two Lower Peninsula Division 1 Finals team championships and is ranked No. 1 again. Sanchez-Burks was part of his first event championship last season, swimming on the winning 200 medley relay, and he also finished second in the 50, seventh in the 100 free and swam on the runner-up 200 freestyle relay. He will be among favorites in multiple events at this season’s Finals on March 10-11 at Calvin University.
