Although notable events Wednesday may have been fewer than most evenings of late, a matchup of arguably the top two hockey teams in Michigan certainly stood out.

Each weekday during the school year, we’ll gather and post media links covering the most significant and intriguing high school events from all over the state. 

Girls Basketball

Gaylord St. Mary moved to 8-1 and into first place alone in the Ski Valley Conference with a 38-23 win over Bellaire – Gaylord Herald Times

Wyandotte Roosevelt handed Trenton its first loss this season, 44-33, to take over first place alone in the Downriver League – Southgate News Herald

Hockey

Birmingham Brother Rice won a Detroit Catholic League Central matchup of the top-ranked teams statewide in Divisions 1 and 2, downing Detroit Catholic Central 4-3 – Oakland Press

1. VOLLEYBALL Coopersville swept Division 1 honorable mention Grand Haven in a District Semifinal, ending the Buccaneers’ pursuit of an 18-straight District title – Muskegon Chronicle

2. VOLLEYBALL Division 3 No. 6 Traverse City St. Francis and No. 7 Elk Rapids advanced to a Division 3 District Final – Traverse City Record-Eagle

3. VOLLEYBALL No. 3 Battle Creek Harper Creek opened its Division 2 run with a 3-1 win over Olivet – Battle Creek Enquirer

4. VOLLEYBALL Bloomfield Hills swept Rochester Adams in Division 1, and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s edged Rochester 3-2 – Oakland Press

5. VOLLEYBALL Haslett advanced in Division 2 with a 3-1 win over Williamston – Lansing State Journal

6. VOLLERYBALL Bay City Western moved on in Division 1 with a sweep of rival Central – Bay City Times

7. VOLLEYBALL Manistique reached a Division 3 District Final with a 3-1 win over Menominee – Escanaba Daily Press

8. VOLLEYBALL Honorable mention Holland Christian and No. 9 Hudsonville Unity Christian were winners in Division 2 District Semifinals – Holland Sentinel

9. VOLLEYBALL Honorable mention Lake Fenton also advanced with a sweep of Goodrich – WJRT

10. VOLLEYBALL Kingsley and Boyne City won Division 2 District Semifinals in sweeps – Up North Live
