Following are 10 public service announcements for your station's
use during your regular or sports programming for this coming
fall. Each announcement runs between 20 and 30 seconds in length.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association is a non-profit
interscholastic athletics service organization, made up of member
schools from your community and other parts of the state. The
Association office is based in East Lansing. We hope that you
will find the enclosed announcements useful. We will be sending
mailings on a quarterly basis.
Outlets originating contests in any MHSAA-sponsored tournament
are required to provide 90 seconds of air time to the Association
per game. These scripts may be used to fulfill that requirement.

Over 3 thousand of the state's top student-athletes will be recognized for excelling academically and in school activities through the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Scholar-Athlete Award, underwritten by Farm Bureau Insurance. The applicants will be in the running for a total of 24 one-thousand dollar college scholarships -- one in each sport in which the M-H-S-A-A sponsors a post-season tournament. To emphasize the importance of healthy eating habits in school sports, the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Sports Nutrition Award, underwritten by the United Dairy Industry of Michigan, will award cash prizes to schools and scholarships to student-athletes in the 24 sports in which the Association sponsors a post-season tournament. So you want to be a good sport? If you do, you'll have to follow
the rules, and follow them without exception. OK

rule of good sportsmanship is to show respect. Rule number two
is - see rule number one! When you really think about it, it's

Everyone wants to be in the mix

get into the action. If you have an interest in sports and helping
educate young people in your community, you can join the action
by becoming a school coach or registered game official. For more

don't buy you the privilege. School sports are for those kids
who make the grade - by being enrolled in the school they represent
and meeting all of the necessary classroom and conduct standards.

The finals of the 1999 Michigan High School Athletic Association
Boys Soccer Tournament will be played on November 13, with the
Division One and Three finals at at Bloomfield Hills Andover High
School; the Division Two and Four finals at Lowell High School.
The action begins at both sites at 11 a.m. This is your opportunity
to see some of the best high school soccer anywhere! Make plans
now to attend this year's boys soccer finals on November 13. A

The semifinals and finals of the 1999 Michigan High School
Athletic Association Girls Basketball Tournament will be played
at the Rose Arena in Mt. Pleasant, December 2, 3, and 4. For the
past two years, all-time record crowds have provided an electric
atmosphere for this annual fall classic. This is your opportunity
to see some of the best girls basketball anywhere! Make plans
now to attend this year's championships at the Rose Arena in Mt.

The 1999 Michigan High School Athletic Association Football
Playoffs will culminate in the Pontiac Silverdome on Nov. 26 and
27 with eight champions being crowned. The finals in Classes A-B-C-D
will be played on Nov. 26th, while the title games in Classes
Double A, Double B, Double C and Double D will take place on the
27th. Don't miss this opportunity to attend high school football's
crowning moment. Make plans now to attend this year's championships
at the Pontiac Silverdome, Nov. 26 and 27. A public service message

Join nearly 2,000 student-athletes representing nearly 500
schools at the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Lower
Peninsula Cross Country Finals at Michigan Speedway near Brooklyn
on November 6th. Watch action in both boys and girls competition
in all four classes at one site! The first race begins at 10 a.m.
