Enclosed are 12 public service announcements for your station's
use during your regular or sports programming for this coming
fall. Each announcement runs between 20 and 30 seconds in length.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association is a non-profit
interscholastic athletics service organization, made up of member
schools from your community and other parts of the state. The
Association office is based in East Lansing. We hope that you
will find the enclosed announcements useful. We will be sending
mailings on a quarterly basis.
Outlets originating contests in any MHSAA-sponsored tournament
are required to provide 90 seconds of air time to the Association
per game. These scripts may be used to fulfill that requirement.
If you have any questions, or desire additional material, feel
free to contact our office at 517/332-5046; by fax at 517/332-4071;
by e-mail off the MHSAA Website Home Page -- www.mhsaa.com
Over 3 thousand of the state's top student-athletes will be recognized for excelling academically and in school activities through the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Scholar-Athlete Award, underwritten by Farm Bureau Insurance. The applicants will be in the running for a total of 24 one-thousand dollar college scholarships -- one in each sport in which the M-H-S-A-A sponsors a post-season tournament. The application deadline is November 23, so contact your high school counselor today! A public service message from the M-H-S-A-A and (Your station's call letters).
(Public service announcement director please note -- If your
station policy does not allow the mention of Farm Bureau Insurance,
simply strike the phrase "underwritten by Farm Bureau Insurance"
before airing this announcement.)
To emphasize the importance of healthy eating habits in school sports, the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Sports Nutrition Award, underwritten by the United Dairy Industry of Michigan, is expanding in 1998-99 to award cash prizes to schools and scholarships to student-athletes in the 24 sports in which the Association sponsors a post-season tournament. For more information, contact the M-H-S-A-A office in East Lansing; or the United Dairy Industry of Michigan office in Okemos. A public service message from the M-H-S-A-A and (Your station's call letters).

Industry of Michigan, simply strike the phrase "underwritten

From the Michigan High School Athletic Association's first
Sportsmanship Summit a year ago came a shared goal to take the
message of sportsmanship to the streets and reestablish that the
values of citizenship, character and respect are still worthwhile
and still worth fighting for. The second Sportsmanship Summit
is September 23 in Lansing, and it's more than the same message
served up a new way. It's a call to action in the battle to preserve
decency in school sports. For more information, contact the M-H-S-A-A
office in East Lansing. A public service message from the
M-H-S-A-A and (your station's call letters).
Sportsmanship is the Golden Rule in action. It is practicing
respect.
Sportsmanship doesn't change with time or place.
Sportsmanship is the same no matter where the game is played,
or who is playing it.
Sportsmanship is what sets high school sports apart from other
levels of athletics;
and ultimately, sportsmanship becomes a way of life for students.
A public service message from the Michigan High School Athletic
Association and
(your station's call letters).
It's not uncommon to gather next to the playing court and field
and wait for an opportunity to get into a game. That chance is
waiting for you right now. You can
help kids in your community in the process by becoming a school
coach or registered game official. You Got Next! For more
information contact your local school athletic administrator or
the Michigan High School Athletic Association in East Lansing.
A public service message from the M-H-S-A-A and (your station's
call letters).
There's a misconception that the reason kids take part in school
sports is to earn college scholarships. In reality, students
say the primary reason they play school sports is to have fun,
and the percentage of those players who receive athletic college
scholarships is less than one percent. But what comes from the
opportunity to play the games has lifetime staying power, and
is more valuable than a scholarship. Today's student-athletes
are the leaders of tomorrow. Support your local school athletic
program! A public service message from the Michigan High School
Athletic Association and (your station's call letters).
More kids than ever before participate in school athletics,
and those numbers continue to grow each year. For over a quarter
of a million girls and boys, school sports promote what's best
in our educational system, and at the same time teach our youth
about responsibility and respect. That's why high school sports
are A Privilege To Play! A public service message from the Michigan
High School Athletic Association and your station's call letters.
