Basketball Finals Ticket-Parking-Security Information Announced

EAST LANSING, Mich. –March 1 Tickets for the 2009 Michigan High School Athletic Association Girls and Boys Basketball Semifinals and Finals are now available for public purchase through the ticket office at each venue.

The Convocation Center on the campus of Eastern Michigan University will play host to the Girls Basketball Semifinals and Finals on March 19, 20 and 21; and the Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing will be the site of the Boys Basketball Semifinals and Finals, March 26, 27 and 28.

The Semifinals in each tournament will begin with a Class C doubleheader with games at 1 and 2:50 p.m. on the first day of play; followed by an evening session in Class D with games at 6 and 7:50 p.m.  The second day of Semifinals at each site will feature the Class A teams in the afternoon doubleheader of games at 1 and 2:50 p.m.; the evening seeing Class B action, with contests at 6 and 7:50 p.m.

The Girls Basketball Finals on March 21 will be played in two doubleheader sessions.  The first session will have the Class D championship at 10 a.m., followed by the Class A game at Noon.  The second session begins with the Class C finale at 4 p.m.; and concludes with the Class B contest at 6 p.m.

For the Boys Basketball Finals on March 28, a twin bill begins the day with the Class D title tilt at 10 a.m., followed by the Class C game at Noon.  The Class A championship session is at 4 p.m.; and a separate session for top Class B honors is at 8 p.m.

Tickets for all sessions at the Convocation Center are priced at $8 each, and include all ticket system charges and parking.  All seating at the Girls Basketball Semifinals and Finals is general admission, and there will be designated seating areas for participating schools.  Internet and phone orders may incur additional handling charges.  For more information, contact the EMU Ticket Office at 734-487-2282.  To purchase tickets online, visit www.emich.edu/convocation

For games played at the Breslin Center, Semifinal tickets are $8 per session.  Tickets for Final games on March 28 are sold in an all-day package, priced at $24.

Single session tickets for the Finals will be sold during the Semifinals, subject to availability.  Single session final tickets are $8 each.

For more information, contact the Breslin Student Events Center Box Office at 517.432.5000 or 1.800.968.BRES (2737).  Tickets may be obtained by mail at the following address:  Breslin Student Events Center Box Office, One Birch Road, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI  48824.  Make checks payable to Michigan State University.  There is a Breslin Center processing fee of $3 added to all orders placed by telephone and mail.  Tickets may also be ordered through the Breslin Center Web site – www.breslincenter.com   A service charge will also be applied for Internet orders.

Spectators attending the event are also advised that Michigan State University will charge $7 per vehicle for parking.  Additionally, there may be construction underway on US-127 between Trowbridge Road and I-96 that will affect traffic.  Driving on the MSU campus is impacted by the closure of Farm Lane north of Mt. Hope Road for ongoing construction.

Security measures will be in place at both events to help assure spectator safety. Fans will be subject to a visual search, and arena personnel will reserve the right to request that patrons open their coats, purses, bags and other personal totes for visual inspection; and deny entrance to individuals who do not cooperate.

Items which fans will be prohibited from bringing into the building include, but are not limited to, the following: Aerosol cans; alcoholic beverages; animals (except assistive animals for people with disabilities); bags (grocery, duffle, backpacks, luggage, large purses, etc.) 8 1/2” x 14” x 10” is maximum size for entry; balloons (air & helium); balls (beach balls, footballs, baseballs, etc.); banners; beverages; cameras (professional) or cameras with lenses over five inches long and/or 50mm and above; cans & bottles; confetti or glitter; coolers of any kind, including small soft pack coolers; fireworks; food; hard objects that can be used as missiles or projectiles; illegal substances; large camera cases; liquids (bottled or boxed); laser pointers; noisemaking devices (bells, horns, kazoos, thunder sticks, whistles, etc.); sticks, bats or clubs; strollers; tripods; umbrellas; and weapons.

The following items will be permitted after inspection: Binoculars and cases; small still cameras and small camera cases (must comply with the camera/lens limits); diaper bags (only if accompanied by a child); hand held signs; purses and fanny packs (must comply with the above bag limits); small radios (must be used with an earpiece); and small video cameras, no tripods.  All spectator videotaping and still photography must be done for private use -- any reproduction, sale or retransmission of the images is prohibited.

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,600 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition.  No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools.  Member schools which enforce these rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
