Selection Sunday Show To Air On FSN Detroit

EAST LANSING, Mich.  – Oct. 12 –  High school football teams around the state will huddle around their television sets on October 21 at 6:30 p.m. (EDT) to find out the qualifiers and pairings for the 2007 Michigan High School Athletic Association Football Playoffs during the Selection Sunday Show, exclusively on FSN Detroit.

The 30-minute program, hosted by FSN’s Mickey York and Cameron Wong, will provide a rundown of the 256 teams that have qualified for the MHSAA Playoffs, as well as their first round matchups and game sites.

“The Selection Sunday Show has created a great atmosphere for the beginning of the playoffs, as teams gather together to celebrate their great season, and then watch to find out about their tournament draw,” said John Johnson, communications director for the MHSAA.  “Selection Sunday is one of the biggest television shows we do with FSN all year long, and it’s also one of the biggest nights of the year for our Web site, mhsaa.com.”

Following the completion of the Selection Sunday Show at about 7 p.m., the MHSAA Web site – mhsaa.com -- will provide the complete list of playoff qualifiers and first round pairings.  Actual game times will be added to the list the following day as they are determined and provided by the participating schools.

For the Pre-District and District rounds of the Playoffs, the game time will be determined by the host school when the distance between the competing schools is within 75 miles.  Friday games may be played at 7 or 7:30 p.m.   For Pre-District games scheduled on Saturday, October 27, unless the participating schools mutually agree to a different time, games will be played at 7 p.m., and if a facility does not have lights, the game time shall be 2:30 p.m.  District Final games scheduled for Saturday, November 3, may be played at 1, 7 or 7:30 p.m., or a mutually agreed to time.  The Pre-District Saturday times were set by the MHSAA Representative Council to minimize conflicts with statewide standardized testing taking place that day.

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,600 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition.  No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools.  Member schools which enforce these rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
