New Athletic Director's Workshop At MHSAA Office Next Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Aug. 9 – For 19 years, the Michigan High School Athletic Association has offered educational programming for school athletic directors, and kicks off its series for the 2005-06 school year with a workshop designed for first-time athletic administrations, which will take place at the MHSAA office in East Lansing beginning at 8:30 a.m. on August 16.

This special session for new athletic directors will cover many of the basic responsibilities of a school athletic director, from working with game contracts, facility scheduling, and budgets; to hiring game officials and on-going relations with the coaches, officials, the public and the media. The program is designed to assist first and second-year athletic directors, and also covers Association regulations and procedures, featuring presentations by the MHSAA executive staff and a veteran athletic administrator.

The conference will conclude by 1 p.m. with lunch. A follow-up workshop for new ADs will take place in the MHSAA office on November 29. Registration is $20 per person. For more information, contact Mandi Hoover in the MHSAA office at 517.332.5046 or by e-mail at [email protected].

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,500 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition. No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools. Member schools which enforce these rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
