FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Oct. 20, 2005 Audio/Video Coverage of MHSAA Fall Championships Set EAST LANSING, Mich. – Oct. 20 – The coverage of Michigan High School Athletic Association Fall championships will feature the debut of a new Internet audio home for Finals in football and girls basketball. The MHSAA Internet Broadcast Network www.mhsaanetwork.com -- is the new audio home for event listeners on the World Wide Web. All eight of the Football Final games, and all twelve of the Semifinal and Finals in Girls Basketball will be available for live listening. All games will also be archived to on-demand listening the first time the Girls Basketball Semifinals will be available. In addition, the audio of a Classic game in each sport is now available on the site as each tournament begins. The classic game for football will be the 1989 Class B Final between DeWitt and Farmington Hills Harrison, a game won in the final moments by Harrison, 28-27, when quarterback Mill Coleman led his team down the field for the winning score with under two minutes to play. The girls basketball game is an instant classic the Class D Final from 2004, in which Lansing Christian defeated Portland St. Patrick in the championship game for the second year in a row in overtime by a 58-54 score. The new site is also the home of the weekly feature, MHSAA Perspective, a commentary about high school sports which is also being aired on 28 radio stations statewide. Most stations are airing MHSAA Perspective as part of their weekly high school sports game coverage. Radio stations carrying MHSAA Perspective are: WABJ Adrian; WQBX Alma; WBCK/WRCC Battle Creek; WATT Cadillac; WCBY Cheboygan; WTVB Coldwater; WCHT Escanaba; WDBC/WYKX Escanaba; WMJZ Gaylord; WQON Grayling; WSCG Greenville; WMPL Hancock; WPNW Holland; WJMS Ironwood; WKHM Jackson; WKLA Ludington; WMTE Manistee; WTIQ Manistique; WMPX Midland; WCZY Mt. Audio coverage of the Football Finals and Girls Basketball Semifinals and Finals will again be provided by the MHSAA-Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation Championship Network, which is in its second year. All eight football games, in addition to being on the Internet, will be available to radio stations wishing to pick up the broadcasts. For Girls Basketball, WVFN-AM in East Lansing will air the Semifinals and Finals; and the Final games will reach across the state on the following stations: WATT Cadillac; WCBY Cheboygan; WCHT Escanaba; WDCB-WYKX Escanaba; WMJZ Gaylord; WSCG Greenville; WCSR Hillsdale; WMIQ Iron Mountain; WTIQ Manistique; WCZY Mt. Pleasant; WNBY Newberry; WMKT-WMBN Petoskey; WIDG St. Ignace; WSPZ St. Joseph; and WMSH Sturgis. Video coverage of Fall championships on the MHSAA's television partner, FSN Detroit, begins with the annual Selection Sunday Show at 5:30 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday (Oct. 23). This half-hour program, hosted by Matt Shepard and Ryan Field, is the public announcement of the qualifiers and first round pairings for the MHSAA Football Playoffs. For the eighth season, FSN will also televise the Finals of the Football Playoffs and Girls Basketball Tournament, with 11 of the 12 games being shown live. The only game in the package which will not air live because of a conflict with a professional sporting event is the Division 4 Football Final on Nov. 25, which will receive its first airing later that same evening. The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,800 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition. No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools.
