Portion Of Football Finals Ticket Sales To Benefit Participating Schools;
Other Football Finals Notes

EAST LANSING, Mich.  – Nov. 16 – Schools participating in the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Football Playoffs will have an opportunity to directly benefit from the advance sale of tickets for next week’s Finals at Ford Field, Nov. 24-25.

The price of a ticket to this year’s Finals has increased by one dollar this year to $10 per day, allowing the purchaser to watch all four games of championship action.  When a ticket is purchased at a participating member school, half of that increase will be immediately retained by the school.

“We hope that in addition to supporting their team during the game, that people will help support their school’s athletic department by purchasing their tickets there in advance of the Finals,” said MHSAA executive director John E. “Jack” Roberts.  “Purchasing your ticket in advance will also reduce lines at the ticket office at the event, and ease entry into the stadium.”

Here are some other notes related to next weekend’s Finals:

Recommended Entrances – Fans of participating schools are being asked to enter Ford Field by specific gates depending on whether their squad is designated the Home or Visiting team.  Fans following designated Home teams should enter by either Gate A at Brush and Beacon Streets or by Gate G on St. Antoine Street.  Fans following the designated Visiting team should enter by Gate B near the intersection of Brush and Montcalm Streets, or by Gate G.  Walk-up ticket sales will take place at Gates A and G.

Early Arrivals Should Sit In End Zones – Fans arriving early for an upcoming game are asked to sit in the end zone seating nearest their entry point to the stadium, and to wait for the fans from the preceding game to completely vacate the midfield seats following their game.

Prohibited Items At Ford Field – Spectators are prohibited from bringing the following items into Ford Field:  Aerosol cans; alcoholic beverages; animals (except assistive animals for people with disabilities); bags – including backpacks (8 1/2” x 14” x 10” is maximum size for entry); balloons (air & helium); balls;  banners (hand-held signs are permitted); beverages; camera lenses 50mm and above; cans & bottles; confetti or glitter; coolers of any kind, including small soft pack coolers; fireworks; food; hard objects that can be used as missiles or projectiles; illegal substances; infant car seats and carriers; large camera cases; liquids (bottled or boxed); laser pointers; markers (permanent); noisemaking devices (bells, horns, kazoos, whistles, etc.); recording equipment (audio, visual, etc.); sticks, bats or clubs; strollers; tripods; umbrellas; weapons.  The following items will be permitted after inspection:  binoculars and cases; still cameras (with lenses smaller than 50mm) and small consumer video cameras and small cases; diaper bags (only if accompanied by a child); purses and fanny packs (must comply with the above bag limits); radios (no larger than the size of a football and used with an earpiece).  Please note that all personal belongings will be subject to inspection upon entry into the stadium. Prohibited items that are discovered during security inspections at the stadium entrances must either be returned to the owner's vehicle or discarded. Items will not be held for later pickup.

Parking At Ford Field – Nearly 3,000 parking spaces are located in Olympia Entertainment lots and ramps adjacent to Ford Field and Comerica Park priced at $6.  There is a new parking ramp which has opened on St. Antoine across from Gate G.  There are also a number of other privately-operated lots and ramps in the vicinity of Ford Field, which may charge different parking fees.  A parking map can be found on the Football page of the MHSAA Web site.

Video From Division 3 & 4 Games To Be Streamed Live On The Internet – Six of the eight championship games will be televised live on FSN Detroit.  Because of programming conflicts, the 7:30 p.m. game each day of the Finals will be shown later that same evening on FSN, with the Division 4 game on Nov. 24 airing at 10:30 p.m., and the Division 3 game on Nov. 25 airing at 11:30 p.m.  FSN Detroit, to better serve fans of those competing schools in the late game, will stream the video of those contests live through the Fox Sports Web site.  Fans will be able to watch the Division 3 and 4 games live on the Internet at foxsports.com/Detroit.  Those are the only games for which video will be streamed, and the video will not be archived for on-demand viewing.  Audio streaming of all eight games will take place on the MHSAA Internet Broadcast Network – mhsaanetwork.com.  The audio of all eight games will again be archived for on-demand listening.

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,800 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition.  No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools.  Member schools which enforce these rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
