MHSAA Web Site Offers Football Scores & More

EAST LANSING, Mich.  – Aug. 22 – High school football fans will be able to obtain scores of varsity contests on game days throughout the regular season shortly after they are completed through the Michigan High School Athletic Association Web site.

Member schools are required to submit results immediately following each contest.  The data is needed to compile computer averages to determine qualifiers at the end of the season for the MHSAA Football Playoffs.  This system replaces the previous reporting method, where newspaper writers from around the state gathered results and submitted them the following week.

The new system will update each football school’s won-loss record as results are received, and results can be viewed as a statewide list, or be sorted by conference.  Weekly schedules are already available as an aggregate list and by conference.  Schools submitted their schedules electronically in the Spring, replacing the paper and hand input method previously used.
Playoff point calculations are also available online, and be sorted in a variety of ways.  This information becomes official each Tuesday by Noon during the regular season.

Football is the only MHSAA post-season tournament sport that requires the use of schedules and game results to set up its playoffs.  It is anticipated that the programming used to gather results in football will be used in other sports at a future time.

Scores, schedules and playoff point averages can be viewed on the Football page of the MHSAA Web site.

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,800 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition.  No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools.  Member schools which enforce these rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
