For 2003-04 Posted To MHSAA Web Site
The division assignments and classification enrollments for Michigan
High School Athletic Association post-season tournaments for
the 2003-04 school year have been posted to the respective sports
pages and the Administration page of the MHSAA Web site.
Sports which will compete in nearly equal divisions in 2003-04
are: Baseball, Boys and Girls Cross Country, Boys and Girls Golf,
Ice Hockey, Softball, Boys and Girls Tennis, Boys and Girls Track
and Field, and Wrestling. Boys and Girls Soccer will have 20
percent of sponsoring schools in Division 4 and the remaining
schools divided equally into Divisions 1, 2 and 3. MHSAA tournament
sports conducted in traditional classifications are Basketball,
Bowling, Girls Competitive Cheer, Girls Gymnastics, Skiing, and
Girls Volleyball. The eight divisions of the MHSAA Football
Playoffs will be announced on Selection Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003,
and traditional classes are used to determine the point values
for playoff point averages.
To view the division assignments for a sport, go to the MHSAA
Web Site (mhsaa.com), click on Sports on the blue navigation
bar on the left side of the page, and then click on the boys
or girls sport for the assignments you wish to view. The information
is available in PDF format, which requires Acrobat Reader to
view.
A complete list of MHSAA member senior high schools, ranked in
enrollment order, is also available on the MHSAA Web site. These
are the enrollments submitted by member schools in February,
which are used to determine placement in the traditional A-B-C-D
classes, as well as divisional assignments.
The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary
membership by over 1,300 public and private senior high schools
and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common
rules for athletic eligibility and competition. No government
funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such
association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament
entry fees from schools. Member schools which enforce these
rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which
attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
